My name is Joe McCoy. I live in Gaffney SC and this is my web site. It was constructed to show my cars both past
and present as well as how some of my cars were built or modified.
I am presently running a '71 Nova I built in
2000 as a back half ladder bar car. It ran 6 teens 1/8 mile powered by a 468 BBC with a glide. I modified it in
2003 to a full chassis car with struts. I also upgraded the roll cage and chassis and had it certified to run
7.50 plus Ets. With the same basic driveline combo it could run 5.80s.
I ran it in brackets races as well as
a 6.0 heads up index class. We won some races and had a lot of fun doing that for a few years.
Last winter I
decided to upgrade the chassis to a 4 link and build a new and bigger motor. I modified the chassis and built
an all new 565 cubic inch BBC. The motor made 930 HP and the car run a best of 5.38 ET. I tried to run a 5.30
index class but the car just couldn't run fast enough to be competitive in that class. I tried bracket racing and
it was so consistent we actually did very well running brackets on a limited schedule.
Over the winter I pulled
the motor out and dynoed it for several days. I found some HP so we should be running with about 965 HP this year.
I also installed new 40 spline rifle drilled ultra light axles and spool to replace the old 35-spline parts. I also
lightened the car up about 50 lbs. total with various lighter parts and I plan to repaint the car before spring. The
plan is to try and run the 5.30 index class when we can and if the car will run fast enough but stay focused on
running bracket races mostly. I hope you enjoy the site and the various articles and pictures. Thanks for stopping
