My first car is not one that I really would like admit to, being somewhat of a lifelong car enthusiast. But, being an only child and a
sixteen year old girl whose Daddy knew had a heart for racing my father did the smart thing and bought me a 1981 Honda Civic hatchback. She
was ten years old when I got her and had only 84K on her at the time. She was a faded maroon color and the backseat was ripped. My friends
and I nicknamed her Rosie the Wonder Honda (I still have no idea why). I sold her after a year for $800 and believe it or not I still see her around
from time to time.
My next car is the car that I loved. A 1984 Pontiac Grand Prix LE that was a hand-me-down from my father who had special ordered it in 1984
and, to my knowledge, she was a one-of-a-kind. Granted, the thermostat constantly stuck on her and she blew hoses left and right. The
Quadrajet jets needed constant adjusting and so she smoked upon starting. But, I loved her and I raced anyone that would even hint at wanting
to race me (and I won too)
I drove the car on through college and tearfully sold her in 1995 when it became apparent that she needed more time than I had to give her. And
I've owned a few cars since then, but that Pontiac will always stand out in my mind. She may not have been my first car, but she was my most
loved car and the one that I miss the most. In my dreams, I still drive that car. Amy

My first car in 1957 was a Calvin Gray '50 Buick Special with a straight 8 and Dynaflow transmission. It cost $147 with
tax and the Buick dealer threw in a sheet metal patch on the driver side floorboard. I had just gotten my license earlier that day with my
dad's car (a '54 Buick) but he said I could not drive it alone. That was
probably a good move on dad's part. So this '50 Buick he had me buy that
June day in 1957 was actually the first car I ever drove alone. The first thing I did was take it out alone on the blacktop
and check out its performance capabilities and try some hot rod driving techniques. I had heard that with an automatic, "neutral
drops" were very effective. In other words, you put the shifter in neutral, floored the accelerator, and then jammed the shifter into
low range. It did work awful good. A few days later I had picked up my girl and was cruising down Garfield Ave. (in LaSalle,
IL -my hometown) and came upon my friend Jasper Maggio and his girl in his '49 Chev. (It had a few mods done to it.)
Jasper asked me if I wanted to run it and I thought, "Why not?" We lined up and I put
one of my recently learned and practiced "neutral drops" on him and
beat him soundly. I had just won my first ever drag race. About a month
and 100 neutral drops later my trans took a big dump while doing a
grocery errand for my dear mother. I told her and my dad. "I can't understand what went wrong. I was just leaving the store to
come home." Of course my folks did not know about neutral drops or my drag racing feats. I had lot of fun with that
car. I had many. many more cars as I grew up -- a lot of real neat ones, and got into hot rodding in a big way. I became "American
Graffiti" Animal Jim.

My very first car was a unrestored 1959 Ford Custom 300 2dr ht. The car had a 223 ci six cylinder and was
originaly green on green, but was in primer when I owned it. It had close to 200,000 miles on it and
I had to sell it this
past fall since I didnt have the resources to restore it and to make room for my "new" first car. It
is a rangoon red on
black 1965 Mustang Fastback with a Tri-Power 289ci. Although technicaly this is my second car, it will
be the first that I will be able to drive. Dean S.

The first car that I bought for myself that ran was a '79 Formula, rust free with nice paint and an anemic 185hp 403 (though it didn't
seem that bad when I got it at 17!). I still own it, since then it's seen a 301 when the 403 blew up, which hurt hard. After that I got a rebuilt 455,
which I put some good heads on, an Edelbrock intake (it was free, no better flowing than stock), Hooker Comp headers, dual exhaust, and a
smallish Summit cam.
The 2.41:1 posi rear remains, allowing for incredible top end (clocked at a tad over 160mph, figured out from the tach and some simple math,
allowing for converter slippage). The car still has traction problems from a dead stop, which was only made worse when I switched from
255/60R15s to 235/60R15s.. plenty fun though. The car handles great thanks to having big sway bars from the factory.. 1.25" front and .875"
rear I believe. The car ate a few TH350s so I upgraded to a rebuilt TH400 with a shift kit, which seems to be holding together well, thankfully. The
car is getting the 455/TH400 yanked from it, and getting an Olds 455/TH400 due to having a smashed fender, and I have another car that needs
the Poncho 455.. just as a reminder, rain + bald tires = bad karma. Hello telephone pole, good bye fender! Good thing for thick old iron, and the
fender was the only thing hurt, except for a tweaked upper a-arm, good thing I have extras, right?
The first car I actually bought was my rust free '67 LeMans.
That's getting the Poncho 455, and I'm painting it gray this spring. It has f-body spindles (better suspension geometry, better handling), bucket
seats + a console, GTO grilles (cost me quite a bit, but it was worth it), and a 3.08:1 open rear. I'm changing the rear out for a '73 Grand Am
(needs the shock mounts changed to the other side of the rear, but pretty much a bolt on and has the more common 8.5" ring gear, plus it has a
posi.. but still a 3.08:1 rear). It also has a Trans Am front sway bar(yeah, 2nd gen f-body bars fit, and the TAs and late Formulas got 1.25" front
bars!), and is getting a 1" rear bar eventually with poly bushings. 16x8" Torq Thrusts are about to mounted on all 4s, with 255/50R16s if they fit in
the front, KYB shocks are in the car, and eventually I'm getting 2" drop springs.
Time to eat some rice this upcoming spring :)

My first car was and still is an 88 Dodge Shadow with the 2.2 turbo and automatic. I found it in Surrey B.C. (Canada)
with 174,500 kms on the clock, after paying only $1750 cdn. I hit the freeway on ramp and floored it, nothing had prepared me for the huge burst
of speed when that turbo kicked in. From that day the car has been my baby, it now has just over 213,000 kms on it and is near mint, the only
major repair it has needed was a fuel pump and a fuel preassure regulator. Ben

I'm a 17 yr old car loving gurl who just got my first car a couple months ago. It's a white 1984 Pontiac Fiero 2m4 Sports Coupe. It's
got a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that doesn't get great gas mileage. I got it off of a guy that works with my dad for $1800. I will soon be putting a
V-8 conversion kit in it so I can win more races that I already have! I put a Sony X-plod cd face in it with Sony X-plod speakers. I'm also gonna
put two big X-plod Subs behind my seats so when I'm done I'll have eight speakers in my car! At the moment I'm tricking out my interior with
neon blue lights and I have blue flames car seats, steering wheel cover, and floor mats. They're pretty tight. I'm thinking about repainting my car
to....probably blue but I might just leave it white. I don't know! All I know is, when I'm done tricking out my car...everyone on the street better watch
out! Amanda
